The essential 12 week preconception care program for pregnancy

Give yourself the best chance of conceiving a healthy baby

Falling pregnant is more complicated than you might think. Planning is essential, as nutrition and lifestyle (especially stress and sleep) can make a big difference to your fertility.  Our 12 week preconception care program is designed to improve your overall health and wellness to boost your chances of conceiving. The program includes:

  • an initial 90 minute consultation in person

  • all materials and tools to help track your diet and menstrual cycle

  • 2 further consultations at week 6 and week 12 of the program

  • a ‘check in’ via phone at weeks 4 and 8

  • nutritional and dietary advice for optimum fertility

  • vital ‘practitioner prescribed’ nutritional supplements for 12 weeks

Why 12 weeks?

Planning for pregnancy should start at least 3 months before you begin trying to conceive, as that is approximately how long it takes for eggs and sperm to mature in preparation for the big event! It also gives you some time to get to know your menstrual cycle so that when you do start trying for a baby, you know when your peak fertile time is each month.

What makes this preconception care program special?

This program takes into account your full health history and addresses your individual nutritional needs. It also provides advice and suggestions for making healthy lifestyle choices to enhance your chances of conception in the future.

You are guided through the program with your naturopath, Lee Copeland, via face to face consultations and phone calls.  Lee will coach you on how to track your menstrual cycle, helping you understand the stages of your cycle and your fertile window.  In addition you will be provided with necessary, high quality nutritional supplements for the duration of the program.

At the completion of the program, you will be confident in your knowledge of your menstrual cycle, ovulation and fertile time as well as having the tools and tips to optimise your nutrition and overall health.

Personal contact with your naturopath, Lee Copeland

Throughout the 12 weeks Lee will be close at hand to answer any questions you may have and ensure you are getting the most out of your program.  Your contact with Lee will be a mix of face to face consultations, phone check-ins and emails.

At the commencement of the program you will have a 90 minute face to face consultation. This enables her to make a thorough assessment of your current health, diet and lifestyle.  It will determine if the basic program is right for you or if there are other issues which need to be addressed before commencing the program or whilst completing the program.

The second and third consultations at week 6 and 12 of the program will focus on helping you to get to know your menstrual cycle in the amount of detail necessary to understand your fertile window. They will also address your individual dietary and lifestyle needs to improve your chances of conception in the future.

Specifically chosen nutritional supplements

Two nutritional supplements are included in your preconception care program and are designed to ensure you are getting all the right nutrients to prepare your body for pregnancy.  The supplements are provided for the full 12 weeks.

Your investment in preconception care

As you can gather, this 12 week program is specially designed to give you all the knowledge and tools to understand your menstrual cycle and optimise your chances of healthy conception.

Your investment in the essential 12 week preconception care program is $575 (less than $5 per day).

You can reduce this fee to $488 if you pay in full at commencement (a saving of 15%). Alternatively, you may choose to pay in two instalments.  The first instalment ($330) is payable on commencement and the balance ($245) is payable in week 6.

If your partner is keen to be involved, the program can be expanded to include him for an additional fee.  Just mention this when you are speaking to Lee.

NB. If you have private health insurance you may be able to claim some of this fee back.

Frequently asked questions about the preconception care program

I am not ready to fall pregnant just yet, is this program suitable for me?

Yes.  This program is designed to prepare your body for pregnancy in the future rather than to fall pregnant during the program.  Planning for pregnancy is essential to ensure the optimal functioning of your reproductive system by making good dietary and lifestyle choices every day.

Is the preconception care program suitable for everyone?

The preconception care program is perfect for you if:

  • you are planning to fall pregnant in the next 12 months and are not currently trying to conceive

  • you do not have any significant reproductive health issues

  • you are under 36 years of age

  • you are not currently taking hormonal forms of contraception (i.e. the pill).  The program is suitable if you plan to cease these forms of contraception at the commencement of the program

Note:  If you are currently trying to conceive, have had issues conceiving previously, are currently undergoing IVF or have diagnosed reproductive issues, this program is not suitable for you.  Please contact Lee on 03 9620 9503 to discuss your current situation as an individual treatment plan can be tailored to best support your needs.

How do I know if I would benefit from a preconception care program?

You will benefit from the program if you:

  • are unsure of if or when you ovulate

  • you don’t know when your fertile window is during your cycle

  • you could improve your diet and need help to improve your nutritional status

  • you need help to make healthier lifestyle choices

What results can I expect from completing the preconception care program?

There are many health benefits of completing the preconception care program.

You will be fully equipped to understand your menstrual cycle so that when the time comes to actively ‘try’ for a baby you know when the best time for conception is each month.  This reduces the stress associated with wondering if you are “hitting the mark”.

Your 12 week program sets you up for long term healthy dietary and lifestyle changes, optimising the function of your reproductive system as well as improving your overall health.  By adopting the dietary and lifestyle suggestions you are likely to have more energy and vitality, feel less stressed or at least manage your stress levels more effectively, and feel confident you are giving yourself the best chance of conceiving a healthy baby when the time comes.

What if I have other health issues that are unrelated to my plans for pregnancy, is this program right for me?

During the initial consultation, any health issues will be discussed and factored into your program.  If any additional naturopathic support and treatment is required it would be over and above this program.

Lee may also suggest at the initial consultation that treatment of your other health complaints need to be addressed before completing the preconception care program to ensure you get the most out of the program.  Lee can tailor your treatment plan specific to your needs following the initial consultation.
